The Joint Initiative Council on Global Health Informatics Standardization (JIC) has been instrumental in fostering the collaboration around the IPS. Initially the JIC published the Patient Summary Standard Set, to which all members of the JIC have contributed. However, it was recognised that a more closely knit set of standards was needed to respond to the request to have a truly globally interoperable patient summary for unplanned encounters. Members of the JIC are currently collaborating on the publication, education and maintenance of the IPS through the Cross-SDO IPS Collaboration.
