In preparation for the European Health Data Space (EHDS), Austria is advancing the development of the Austrian Patient Summary (APS) from a conceptual specification toward an operational, standards-based service within the Austrian public eHealth infrastructure (öGTI). Healthcare professionals have expressed a clear need for a reliable and up-to-date patient summary to support clinical decision-making across care settings. Systematic reviews show that Patient Summary adoption leads to fewer medication errors, reduced hospital readmissions, and better care coordination. While manual curation of Patient Summaries remains a prevalent approach, we opted for automated aggregation due to the need for timely integration of distributed data.
