During the HL7 FHIR DevDays in June 2022 in Cleveland OH, USA, Matthew Rahn, Deputy Director of Standards at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) in the United States, spoke about the Global Digital Health Partnership and their experience with implementing the International Patient Summary using the HL7 FHIR IPS Implementation Guide.
The session reviews progress around the world with the adoption and implementation of the IPS. This includes IPS examples, open-source tools to visualize IPS and initial demonstrations of patient-mediated exchange of IPS documents. In addition, a review is provided on how to validate IPS documents along with servers and technologies available for testing exchange. Finally, Matt addresses the question how IPS relates to other standards for data exchange, such as International Patient Access (IPA) and existing care summaries.
