Advancing the International Patient Summary in New Zealand

The International Patient Summary (IPS) is endorsed by the Health Information Standards Organisation (HISO) in Aotearoa New Zealand as a principal standard for core personal health information and data portability, alongside HL7® FHIR® and SNOMED CT.

Four interwoven themes of the HISO interoperability roadmap

HISO’s interoperability roadmap for 2020-25 describes the importance of these standards to a connected and data-driven health system that better serves all New Zealanders. NZIPS is New Zealand’s adaptation of the IPS, used to support COVID care in the community and other continuity of care, patient record transfer and consumer access use cases.
